Better cover my license plate, because as we all know THE GOVERNMENT CAN READ MY THOUGHTS IF MY LICENSE PLATE ISN’T COVERED IN MY CRAIGSLIST AD.

Honestly, it looks better than just a finger sticking into frame. Still don’t get it.

I can understand obstructing your license plate if you’re posting your current car here and want to try and stay anonymous, but when you’re selling your car, I will never understand.

What gets me the most is when they cover the plate but list their adress and contact name. Those are like the 2 things you could get from a plate outside of the car being stolen.

I did this for a joke once, but I will print it out again if I ever list a car online.

Frankly, to me, this jives with the common sportbike approach of not bothering to put a plate on at all/fitting the plate at an angle that is damn near impossible to read.

What I don’t understand is why people who are bothered by showing their plate just don’t take the few seconds to remove it

Exactly, it’s not that hard. Hell both my BMWs even have screwdrivers in the trunk.

You can’t get that from a plate unless you’re in law enforcement. They’re the only people that can look up plate info anymore.

If you’re crafty you can get the information. Not every jurisdiction has this, but in my home county you can plug a plate into the online tax records, get a name, and plug it back into the system and then you have an address.

There are other, more intense ways to get this info too.

It’s illegal for state DMVs and LE to provide identifying information for the owner of a license plate...

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Driver’s_Privacy_Protection_Act

This is completely different from other countries.

Never said it was legal.
